A big faux pas, indeed.

If speaker Rota and his staffers had read Mr. Rizzuto's articles about how Ukraine needs to come to terms with its WW2 behavior, they just might not have granted Mr. Hunka a seat in the parliamentary gallery, let alone put the spotlight on him. A political job was lost--and deservedly so.

My understanding of the workings of Parliament is that the speaker has certain privileges. This could change because of this incident, but it's hard to pin this mistake on Mr. Trudeau and his staffers.

But we can pin recent row with India on the PMO. As much is the assassination may be true, I don't see the political upside in starting this fire. Just let the police departments find the assassins and point public opinion in a certain direction. And Mr. Najjar was a controversial figure.

And Mr. Hunka should have known better not to take on the spotlight. His last days will be watching his fall from whatever good he had done in Canada in the past 7 decades. Ex-Nazis should know better.
