A few weeks ago, I did a little survey of the articles in my feed.
10% came from top writers who I do not follow.
30% came from writers I do follow. But at least of half of my active follows are not on my feed.
60% came from writers I do not follow. Why am I getting their articles?
Yes, my feed is a bland. I really can't see why people would pay a subscription fee just to be mostly a reader.
My hypothesis is that the Medium psychologists are trying to figure out what keeps us here. With their analysis, the algorithms are set up the way they are set up. Have they got this right? Who really knows? But I wonder if the psychologists are scared of deviating too far away from their current path.
On a rare occasion, I get a feed that is real interesting. Lots of articles I want to read. And yet I get frustrated in that if I click on an interesting article, I might lose another five or six potentially great articles. Maybe there is a good reason for the bland feed?
