A few years back, a friend asked me what I did for a hobby (he already knew I had a vocation that paid my way in the world).

I said: “I like to write.”

He said: “What do you write about?”

I struggled with this question as my hobby writing has taken me in several directions. “What was the central unifier in my work?” my mind was flexing itself.

I blurted out, “I write about things no one wants to read.”

That pretty much sums it up.
