While we should be looking at hydrogen as our energy, I'm also looking at another kind of energy: what we do with our spare time. When we can shift some of that around to more positive endeavors, that too will be a profound shift of where our society goes.
A good example of "mostly without realising it" is Alberta's Conservative Party. Their mandate is less government, yet they are, at least, maintaining current social programs. To me, it seems like they are enhancing such programs.
We could argue that we are inextricably being led somewhere, but not sure where. Hence, maybe we should just go with the flow.
But someday, someeone(s) will have propose a new way. I guess I'm one of those ways.
