One thing that struck me that those in combat, however great they are in combat, can still be snuffed out at any time. So too could the rest of us who drive cars. So much talent lost in deaths of young people.

I think we need a new kind of leaders: ones that can work collaboratively. Washington seems to have some of these skills, in times where personality cults were more dominant. Maybe we are still in those times.
