A great story about deliberately changing one's value system. It is not an easy process. It is easier to stay in the current value system--because of all the social connections one has built up.
This applies not only to religions, but to lifestyle choices, politics, social movements, and maybe a few other things that help create our identity. I have followed and abandoned several "religions" in my 63 years.
For sure, when someone moves away from our clique, we should keep the door open. Not necessarily for re-conversion purposes, but because this person still deserves our friendship.
