A green-party leaning friend of mine joined the Alberta Tories for a short time. His plan was to vote for Ralph Klein as party leader. He thought Klein would be the easiest candidate to beat in the general election. That plan did not work out too well.
In 2006, Mr. Trump would not have been electable in the USA. USA changed in 10 years. Or perhaps better said, there were forces set in place 30 years previous that brought conditions such that someone like Mr. Trump could win in 2016.
I like watching the Canadian Tories. They seem to want to be like Mr. Trump, but just can't quite commit to that extreme. Both Doug Ford and Jason Kenney often sound like "socialists". Maybe another decade things might change for them to be real righties.
