A long time ago, I read "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" by Gibbon. The decline was a long drawn out process, not something that happened in just a few years. And even in that negative transformation, there was some degree of social order. Europeans did not descend into roving bands of marauders or hunter/gatherers. They did not abandon their cities.

In a like manner, our negative transformation that seems more likely as the months tick by will not bring an end to civilization. Farms will still produce food; factories will still produce the more necessary products; many of us will have jobs. There will be more civil unrest, but most of us will learn to keep our heads low. Our future leaders will be quite preoccupied with that unrest.
