A lot depends on which politicians are talking to which generals these days. And which generals are talking to each other. You and I and most other citizens won't be hearing about these back room conversations.
If things do blow up, both sides of radicals will be ready to defend the nation to the best of their ability. I don't think there'll be an immediate capitulation. Whether that turns into a full blown civil war depends on how united the generals are.
I have an ulterior motive for being on Medium: I invented an alternation democracy. I've been working on it for 24 years. The premise is to build this new democracy as the old democracy slowly crumbles. The new democracy will require about 20 years to mature. I'm not sure the USA has 20 years left.
I think this new democracy can still be built during times of civil unrest. Maybe that's when people will take my ideas seriously.
Anecdotally, I believe the Asimov estate was reluctant to turn Foundation into film. But things change. I probably won't see it as we don't have Apple TV and I can't very well plan to watch TV at specific times.
