About 10 years ago, I somehow believed that the western world was overcoming its racist, misogynistic, and elitist tendencies. I guess I was hanging around too much with the right kind of people. Yes, there were still a few squareheads around, but they were mostly obstacles to steer around.

I was starting to question my rose-colored outlook before Mr. Trump came on the scene. He exposed that we still have a lot of work to defeat these negative trends of humanity. On one level, maybe it’s a good thing we are going through this experiment now.

This article may be well written and appeals to the author’s fan base. But there’s no solution offered. Almost as if the only course is a dystopia of some kind.

May I suggest that we build a new version of democracy?
