About 15 years ago, I watched a documentary about the mating rituals of deer. It was based on the "old" model of a prime buck acquiring a harem. The buck was pretty preoccupied with keeping his harem from drifting and chasing away competitors. All I could think of was: "That's a lot of work to get a few pieces of tail. If I were a male deer, I would focus on fattening myself for winter instead of the girls."

I wasn't very good at the dating scene. Just somehow could not make the social connections. So I quit and remained a bachelor for many years. I'm married now. My wife must like me because I certainly did not fight for her.
