About 20 years ago, Canada made voter ID to be a requirement to get a ballot. Before, anyone could say "I'm Joe Smith of 123 Main Street" and get Joe's ballot.

Lots of opposition and complaints. But after three federal, provincial, and municipal elections, people got used to bringing their ID to vote. No one complains anymore.
