About five years ago, the mass media in Canada got after the supermarkets for food wastage. And the supermarkets have responded. There is now a lot of marking food down a day before the expiration date. That way it leaves the supermarket in a grocery bag, not a garbage bag. And that’s good for consumers on a tight budget. Plus a little more money for the store.

I recommend a book called “11” by Paul Hanley. Backed by lots of research, he describes how the world can easily feed 11 billion people. For example, turning all those hectares dedicated to tobacco into field of wheat or beans would feed another XXXm people.
