About four years back, an internet community community called Asgardia was created by some fellow. The premise was a huge space station, and its inhabitants wanted to create its own system of self governance.

I was invited to take on a quasi-leadership role. But my life was not conducive to that task. But I did watch the proceedings.

In a nutshell, Asgardia blew up within a few months. Everyone was pretty excited about implementing their version of a better "world." But no one was listening to anyone else. The few leaders tried to steer the conversation towards the basics of governance, but other members wanted to talk about taxation, prisons, et al. The owner of the site suspended the discussion boards.

If nothing else, Asgardia proved my hypothesis that the early TDG builders need to cast aside any societal issues. Rather they are to focus on building the system of governance (elections et al). Building this new system will practice consulative decision making, but the stakes won't be that high that people get really attached to their ides.

As the TDG matures, it will be better able to handle the issues society faces. But not at the beginning.

So I will decline your offer to join your group. I know where this is going to go--even if you find 100 co-workers.
