After the English civil war in 1688, the British aristocrcy ceded a lot of their power to an elected parliament. There were people back then who said that wouldn't work, and the UK would eventually go back to a monarchy.
In 1792, the founding fathers envisioned a new democratic system. There were naysayers back then.
But the UK and US examples showed the rest of the world that democracy can work better than oligarchies. What if we had listened to the naysayers of those times.
Going from oligarchy to democracy is an elevation of human nature. We need to take a nother step up.
