Ari. Very good question indeed. I shall answer it first shortly with these points:
1) The leaders and real baddies of the insurrection should be put in front of a judge and spend some time in jail.
2) The system should keep Mr. Trump and his companies in as many criminal and civil courtrooms as possible (but on reasonable grounds).
3) The world really needs to know what Mr. Trump was really doing in those few hours of the insurrection. Hint: It wasn't watching Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Here is my longer answer. Points 1, 2, & 3 will not solve much for the long term. There are social/political forces in the USA that would prefer an oligarchy than a democracy. These forces are mobilized and only need a more effective leader. And I wouldn't be suprised if that leader came from the political left.
I spent six years in a Canadian political party. From the outside, that party was a viable contender for power. Inside, there were alls sorts of dysfunctionality. I came to the conclusion that all political parties are like this. And this dysfunction spreads into government and general society.
When I realized that I wasn't doing much good to make a better world, I quit politics. But somehow, I invented another system of governance that dealt with all the dysfunction I was seeing. In 1997, I started putting my ideas together on paper.
I call my invention "Tiered Democratic Governance." It is a system that will not give someone like Mr. Trump a position of high office.

This TDG will take at least 10 years to build. So I really don't have a short-term solutions for the perils the USA is facing. The three points I put up previously are only stop-gap measures that I believe have the best chance of holding the country's democracy together enough to build this new system.
All the anti-Trump articles on Medium will not save the USA. I was wasting my time in politics; these writers are wasting their time.
