As much as many of us are enjoying the "decline and fall," this is another sign of how systemic is the brokenness of American democracy.

Both parties continued with declining leaders far too long. It's the system, not the leaders. The first party escaped this trap more by a fortunate wind of chance than by good planning. The second party seems to be stuck with its decision. Remember when Mr. Desantis was leading in the R polls?
