Back in my days in university, there were choices for me. But I choose events that had a lot of alcohol. Probably about 70% of students made a similar choice.
My psyche in those days would not allow for more productive social outings. I believe those choices are still there, but peer pressure is a hard social force to overcome, especially when young.

Democratic structures will not solve much if we don’t change our psyche. I have been critical of Medium contributors who believe that certain electoral changes — like popular vote replacing the electoral college — will make the USA a better place. All the popular suggestions will bear no fruit.
