Back in my political days, I was given the job of analyzing Canada's census to help my political constituency association get to know our residents, which should help win the election. The average household income was $37,000 at that time, which was a reasonable income.
A professional couple that I know were pulling in more than $100,000 a year. They called themselves middle class. I don't think I need to do the math for you to realize that the constituency must have had quite a few people in the $10,000 to $20,000 range.

It would be interesting to do some research on how many readers of doomer articles actually move forward somehow and how many readers just kind of give up.
As I read this stuff, it seems the doomers are giving their readers the license to give up.
