Back in normal times, there was this axiom: "The party will put up with a lot of crap of the politician can win the election." It takes a lot of crap for a political party to turn on a member of its own tribe.

These days, there is a likely a lot of threats that don't make public attention. I suspect the recent SCOTUS decision was a result, to some degree, of these threats.
