Back when my mother and father were younger, they were "committed social drinkers." They would have joined the group. For sure, not griped about it because they were doing the same thing. Well not quite, they were living on a farm where their noise could not bother anyone else.

My mother is in an elderly care home now. She is now making friends with the teetotallers of our farming community. She told me, "I can't understand why we weren't friends back then."

My response, "Because you and Dad needed 3-4 drinks to socialize. It's hard for non-drinkers to be around that. "

BTW, Mom and Dad cut back their alcohol consumption as they got older. Maybe the kids moving out had something to do with that.

Anyways, noise bylaws need to be somehow addressed in our modern society. The side that "loses" needs to understand that there were good reasons for the bylaws. But this understanding is disappearing. We all want FREEDOM.
