Below are my musings
I think the media outlets know their business model quite well. Each outlet is targeting a base audience — and appealing to that audience by the stories it selects and how it spins those stories. The base stayed tuned to that outlet — and eventually are swayed by the advertisers to buy certain products.
I would even say that FOXX and CNN are no longer competitors. Neither wants to go after each other’s base. Their biggest competitors are NFL and Netflix. In these corporate entities, the media outlets can entice some the those to spend more time on the outlets rather than entertainment.
And I think Donald Trump has been good business for both left- and right-wing media. He has certainity brought a lot more drama to the political process.
It’s good to hear the people do want to spend money for online subscriptions. I haven’t done that yet, but I am a small sustaining contributor to PBS.
I heard a good idea that each citizen can allocate a small percentage of their tax money a year to the media outlet of their choice.
There was a local newspaper in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan that folded a few years ago. The former employees bought the paper and turned into a co-operative community paper, with emphasis on local news. Maybe this is a new model.
