Both sides are guilty.
For example, I can't understand the D's reluctance to have voters present ID at the polls. We Canadians put this requirement into our elections about 20 years ago. A few hiccups, but it works pretty good now.
Actually, I can understand it why D's don't want voter ID. They might lose a few hundred thousand votes because some of their "base" does not carry ID. That could tip many elections in USA's tendency to have close elections. But the D reluctance gives credence that they too are not interested in democracy either.
There is no fixing the system from within the system. If a party worker does not "fight", the party will find other workers who will. Same goes for the media: it wants fighters, not negotiators.
That I why the TDG must be built outside the current political system. There, the various opinions, perspectives, fact checkers, etc. can learn how to consult and work together, rather than try to solve issues through the culture of fighting.
