In 1985, I got involved in party politics (in Canada) as my way of trying to better the world. By 1992, I recognized the system was quite dysfunctional, and I quit. If I were to briefly summarize my experience with your article, I would say there is a competition for elected politicians' time and energy: not all social issues can be addressed promptly--and the politicians need to consider the needs of the party over the needs of society.
But somehow I invented another system of governance. That was 23 years ago!
My most recent attempt to get the world interested in this system is a novel about average Americans building this new system. It really is not that difficult.
