"But will what’s left of America — and the world — learn the lesson?"
From my perspective, the answer is "no". Since 2009, I've been showing the world an alternative democracy. But no one seems interested.
The USA may indeed go through a phase of a one-party state. And that one party would be lucky to last a decade before the population throws it out by revolution. But what will replace it? Probably the same system the country had before. The same system that brought them to today's place. Not much will be learned.
