I have watched a few too many homestead TV shows to learn something about that mindset. These people somehow believe they are the rugged individuals, not needing anyone else's help---as they are building their homestead with a rechargeable power drill--and a little generator to charge it up and putting gasoline into that generator. Did I mention when the patriarch gets a heart attack, they send him to a modern hospital? He is not eating a special tree bark to fix that problem.

These people are way out of balance. They need to watch the "Alone" series. That's when we see capable and rugged individuals slowly starving to death.

So write those stories!
