By law since 1980, all construction blueprints in Canada must have a metric verion. Today's drafting software makes the conversions rather easily. Many tradesman can read a metric blueprint, but probably think more in US units.
But all fittings, frames, etc. are still the same size as before the great metric wave. So a 2x4 becomes a 38x89 on the drawing (or something like that). It's easy to relate a metric size to the nice US size. We can say that the Canadian construction industry is 25% metrified.
The Canadian petroleum industry converted pretty well to metrification, probably 95% when I left. New petroleum engineers would be a little lost if moving to the USA.
