I have to agree with you. There really isn’t much result done in why people vote the way they do — and it would be extremely difficult to conduct such research. It is all speculation for sure as to why Ms. Clinton lost in what should have been an easy victory.
I think it’s safe to say that whatever ads the Russians did place, at least 90% of them had no effect. As for the ones that did have effect, that effect was probably a culmination of several forces, not just the Russian ad in itself. There is a whole whack of psychology that is racing through many voters’ head — and no one really understands it. But that psychologically is constantly being played with.
