Circa 1980, the Manitoba government put a pilot UBI project for unemployed people a small rural town. After that, Finland put together some similar UBI projects.
My recollection is that the recipients were happy with the less stress in their life. But very few found their way back into the workforce. I suspect the UK studies will have similar results. I would take a $1500 payment over a $2000 40-hour-per-week, crappy job.
I suspect the Conservatives know this is going to happen--and will prove to themselves that UBI won't work. So I have my doubts
Canadian UBI is slowly creeping in. Maybe that is the way to implement this social program.
