Circa 1990, I introduced RCV for my political party's internal elections (in Canada). The backlash was immense at even talking about this kind of change. Now all the parties have RCV for their leadership contests. I'm not sure about the local contests.
I think it is a superior system. In time, third parties will start getting some recognition for their true support. But time is needed. As well, voters and vote counters will require a couple of election cycles to understand how this process works.
But I'm looking at an even better system. One without any political parties. Follow my byline if you are interested.
