Circa 2009, I was trying to use FB as my means of marketing my work. I was watching a heavy metal philosopher ply his DVDs, speaking engamements, and SWAG to his audience of about 40,000.

Then, FB pulled the rug out from him. He could not longer reach all 40,000 of his fans. Maybe a small fraction of his posts were getting through (in other words, Mr. Z was trying to get him to pay some advertising $$$$).

As a workaround to reach many of his fans, the philosopher was making about 25 posts a day. I didn't see this as a good use of his time. But to each his own.

The lesson: don't become too dependent on any one platform. Rules can change quickly.

BTW, I got about 100 fans before the BIG FB CHANGE. Before I could get 70 views on a post; after maybe five.
