"Complicated" is a good adjective here.

If you haven't read Umair's essays on "Eudomonics," you should. He actually has a real nice vision of what the world should look like. And it is believable.

But he is writing mostly about dystopia. If he puts up daily articles about his Eudomonics, he won't get near as many readers. His Medium paycheck will suffer. This says more about his readers than it says about him.

It is my hypothesis that, psychologically speaking, Umair's articles give his fans comfort that they are not to blame for the mess we are in. This is really dangerous as he has convinced them that they have no power to change things. If he is using dystopia to get them to his eudomonics, this is not working.

Today, Umair published an article about how the Republicans are trying to take over the USA. I think most of us have figured this out months and even years ago. Why put an article like this--except to make more money?

What should we do about the Republican takeover? Not one bit of "call-to-action" ever comes from Umair.

I liken Umair and his loyal fans as people who are watching the ship sink, but do nothing to stop the leak or get the ship to a better place. What's the adjective for that? Hmmmm, how about "apathy"?

I don't read his articles much any more. But I have used to use his popularity to post comments to promote my TDG. I get more traction from these posts that my own articles. Sometimes, Fariba Haque had chided me for this practice, and maybe that could be one reason why I get such low readership on Medium. I might have been reported as a spammer.

I put up a comment on today's article. I've already got several "likes" for it. But I doubt it will go beyond that.

It's a strange world.
