If the USA somehow adopted a proportional representational system of governance, the D's and R's would split themselves, probably on the lines you have suggested. The main difference between PR and FPTP systems is when the coalition forms. In PR, it is after the election. In FPTP, it is before the elections. Both systems require smart people to make the right compromises at the right time to make the right things happen. But both systems still fall short of what humanity can accomplish.

If you believe the abolishment of the EC will mean great progress for the USA, then you should go ahead with that belief. I've always said the TDG needs a decade or two to develop itself. It very much needs to have people on the outside trying to hold the current system together while the TDG builds itself. The TDG cannot be thrust into governance tomorrow, even it finds that 1% willing to put some effort into this project. Your efforts to keep democracy alive the USA is still important for the TDG.

The problem with this last statement is that the USA already has millions of people working in this way. Having a few of them divert their time and energy in this way is not going to hamper the pro-democracy movement in any way. And given that media institutions like CNN and The Atlantic have the ability to percolate into the fringes of fascist base, I would even say that average citizens do not have much influence in making posts on their internet echo chambers, regardless of how much time and effort they put into their cause. But if they work for the TDG, their work will have impact for generations.

Anyways, it is your choice where you put your time and energy.

I still think the USA is dangerously close to a fascist state.
