Dan: I had to chuckle when reading this. I spent six years in a political party--and much of the same dysfunction and characters was there.
So true it is that we are losing "governance" experience in our society. It is getting harder to find people who know how to work together and get things done. Experience on church board could teach about governance for other places in our communities. But maybe five years on church board might be a good sign not to bring such a person to a community board.
Our society is teaching us that if we have an opinion, our job is to champion the opinion to its implementation. There is little listening, which leads to a lack of consensus. The "victors" are right because they won the game of democracy, not because their ideas were superior.
My Medium purpose is to promote an alternative democracy. When we build this democracy, it will be the forum to learn a new way of decision making. Eventually we will bring this way into government.
