Democracy is indeed an elusive term. Circa 1990, Patrick Watson tried to define this term in the long documentary "The Struggle for Democracy."

A rules-based social order is limited when the people do not believe they have much input into the making and enforcing of the rules. While the rules may be obeyed, their acceptance is minimal. Are we really in a democracy?

Whether we like it or not, democracies do need rules. Even my alternative democracy.
