My contention is that there was some master political plan behind the rise of Mr. Trump. I’m not seeing this at all. There was an exposed nerve in American social structure. Mr. Trump bumbled into this nerve with his cavilings, and he exploited it to make him into a credible candidate. No one — not even Mr. Trump — really understood how big this nerve really was. At least until Mr. Trump actually got elected.

Will Mr. Trump ever be able to deliver to Joe Lunch Bucket? I suspect not — even without controversies, impeachment proceedings, and “fake news”. He is not a “man of the people.”
