DJB. I like your answer. I hear stories of the 1950s and 1960s. If big government and big business wanted to build a pipeline through your back yard, you had little recourse. So, for sure, yes, some things are better.
The behaviour of the Republican Party is understandable as the higher level players see both a democracy and an oligarchy in the near future. They are hedging their bets, and doing a great job of that.
If Mr. Trump and minions just held off another hour on January 6, we might be seeing a different America today:
I've been wrong about Mr. Trump's future before. But I think he is losing favor with the wealthier oligarch-leaning wing of the Republican Party. They will find another puppet.
The USA does not have a 20th century model of governance. Its 18th century model does not work anymore. The election of Mr. Trump proves the point.
