Dylan:
While the article has a lot of truth to it, there are many other political writers on Medium saying the same thing. There is not much original thinking here.
The comment by Chris Snow is noteworthy. As much as Mr. Trump would like to take the USA to a similar position as Russia, there are social and political forces in the USA that will counter this slide. For example, if 100 protesters get shot by police, there will be political consequences.
Critics of my alternative democracy have told me that the USA and other democratic nations are not a democracy. Or maybe better said, the USA is an oligarchy disguised as a democracy. There is a lot of truth here, for there has always been a big corporate agenda in these supposed democracies. But to simply say the USA is already like Russia is kind of missing the importance of democracy.
So I have written an article that our current democracies have both democratic and oligarchic traits to them:

Mr. Trump will take the USA closer the oligarchic side of this paradigm. And he need not shoot 100 protesters to accomplish this shift. A full fascist shift will take about 50 years. So much depends on his successor; not just anyone can get and keep 30% of the population on his side. And that leader is not guaranteed. And so much depends on the motivation of the social engineers behind the MAGA movement, who, I believe, are motivated and organized for this 50-year shift.
So well meaning people will have to continue to organize against the right-wing social engineers. There was a big protest yesterday in Washington DC. But this movement was much less than the protests of 2016. Or maybe the media is not reporting the 2024 protests in full, I don't know.
But is this hyper-vigilant left-wing opposition the answer? It seems so. Many political writers believe their role in democracy is to point fingers when someone like Mr. Trump rises to power.
My take is that figures like Mr. Trump should never have been viable contenders for power in the first place. I have a system that will sideline these kinds of politicians.
