Everyone once in a while, I like to go through Wiki articles on famous actors. When I see the list of their TV/movie credits, it seems they never take a day off. Finish one film set and move to the next.
Part of it might be that such a career requires them to be continously out there to stay relevant in this career. Maybe this is more fear than reality, for there are actors who take a more relaxed pace. Not as famous or as wealthy.
Another part might be that they have a proven success record of attracting and keeping an audience. There may be other actors just as good, but these new actors won't bring in the $$$$. It's a good boost for the ego to be demanded. Narcism, indeed.
Most Canadian politicians have a career of about 10 years. Many willingly step aside, citing reasons you have given. Methinks the pace is quite gruelling--and they never really acquired the influence they really wanted. Ten years is enough.
