Thank you for your thoughtful response. I was thinking about a possible response, and my internal musings were becoming fairly lengthy. I decided I should turn it into its own article. Expect it in about a month from now.

In the meantime, I did write an article last May about formulaic writing. All the top writers on Medium use formulaic writing to keep them at the top. There are financial reasons for doing so.

At the start of August, Medium has made some big changes to article delivery and MPP. So my hypothesis may no longer be valid.

Because I am a "bottom writer," these changes don't seem to affect me. A couple of "middle writers" who I follow are complaining about lower earnings this month.
