For several decades, I've believed that the non-voters are the most powerful demographic in western elections. Political parties feared agitating these people, so they tried not to annoy them.

In 2020, there were many reasons for this group to come to the polls. Some of them did, but not enough to send the Republicans a clear message.

Rather than blame them, maybe we should try to understand them.
