Francesco: Well that was interesting. It's good to understand what other writers are feeling with their work here.
I have put up two novels. The second one seems to have got a bit better traction than yours, but single digits is the final score. I still get a hit now and then, but I doubt anyone had read the entire series yet.
As I reader, I would find reading a series on Medium rather inconvenient. I'm not sure how someone could convince me to buy a fiction ebook from Amazon. Writing is such a competitive field.
But I have bought about 20 political ebooks, coming from my Medium recommendations. Do you have anything on Amazon?
A little word of caution: In September 2020, Medium changed its terms and conditions. Technically it becomes a co-owner of any work a writer publishes on Medium. I'll let you read the fine print and figure out how you want to present your serial works here.
When I get into my political writing, I would say that I become quite energized. I could do this all day, but there is that family thing and that job thing. My last serious article took about 15 hours. It only got 22 reads on Politically Speaking and my feeble following. None of the 22 went in the direction of my ulterior motive. I would like to write more articles like this, but the rewards are just not there.
Unfortunately, the nature of my political writing--even if it is clever as I believe it is--will not find a big audience.
I have put together a few quick pieces (two hours each) and putting them on my own pub. I probably wouldn't be doing that, but my software developer for another project has had a life crisis. While I wait for him, I put my spare time in this little project. My last piece got 6 reads.
While I enjoy writing, I recognize the hard work that goes into putting a great article together. You are one of the better writers on Medium--and your efforts are showing, at least to me. I like that you can get into so many different topics with different angles. The popular political writers on Medium are more or less writing the same thing each day. That kind of shows this enlightened platform still has too much shallowness.
