About 10 years ago, I invented an ad broker concept for online advertising, based on my frustrations with Google ads. Basically, the publisher chooses the ad to show on his website.

Anyways I took a look at that concept a few days ago. Not having looked at it for several years, let's just say it needs a lot of structural editing. I would not build this website today as I did back then. This shows that writing skills do improve with practice. So maybe that is your reason for staying on Medium.
This lowly writer is going to make about $150 in MPP this year. With my subscription fee of $55, I actually earn a "profit." But, of course, when I factor in my time, that profit goes out the window.
If I can extract more money out of Medium than I put in, I don't think Medium is profitable. I would even say that we writers are being subsidized by the billionaire investor.
I have a feeling that Medium is scared of losing its top writers. So the current system stays to give them a privilged position. If I were running the show, I would cut the pay of the top writres and let them leave. There are other good writers earning peanuts.

Have you thought about building a simulation for a hydrogen economy?
I have built several similations over the years. None have been succussful. But I will be launching a new one soon. Maybe this simulation is where I gain my fame.
It is about 95% complete, We are having some difficulties with expanding the simulated time, but this will be resolved soon.
