From my interpretation of the Canadian news, the Speaker seems to have known this fellow for a long time. YH may have portrayed himself as a freedom fighter. But as your article suggests, there were few good guys in authority in Ukraine at that time.

A little knowledge of history and some vetting would have prevented this embarrassing incident. It sounds like the Speaker is going to be run out of Ottawa soon.

For sure, Ukraine needs to acknowledge the sordid parts of its history. Many more countries need to go down this path.
