Garry: Impeachment might be the right thing to, I have to agree — in a perfect world, I would say “go ahead”. But there are also political practicalities in this imperfect world.
While neither you, I, nor nor anyone else can predict with any certainty the outcome of impeachment or “appeasement”, there are good reasons for not going in this direction. I can see a failed impeachment really backfiring on the D’s, enhancing the R support in 2020. I honestly don’t know the better path here, and it will take more time for D’s to become unified into one path or the other. But unifying the D mindset is not my problem.
My take is that we should have not got into this mess into the first place by electing Mr. Trump. The American electoral system is seriously flawed. It cannot be fixed by reforming the electoral college or new laws for campaign financing or handling Russian trolls or whatever. We can no longer overhaul the car we call western democracy: we need a new car.
I invite you to read about Tiered Democratic Governance. No political parties; no noisy election campaigns; just an organic democracy by the people for the people.
The alternative is to continue “complaining” (or should I say “trying to bend the will of those ambitious citizens who strive for public office”). But you will be making the same kind of complaints 20 years from now if the TDG goes nowhere.
And I believe the next populist American leader will be much smarter than Mr. Trump. In this way, Mr. Trump is a blessing to the USA. USA needs do democracy much differently.
