In dry years, like last year, we get few mosquitoes. The mosquito eggs stay as eggs until there's enough moisture in the ground to support larvae. Apparently these eggs can last 7-10 years in a dry state.
In wet years, the eggs hatch.
This year has been a wet spring and early summer. So far, few mosquitoes. This might be our black swan.
