Growing two heads? In my case, I see eyeballs turning 180 degrees far too often.

I worked with a fellow who never had a business. But he could criticize almost every business in town, like "If they just lowered their prices, people would buy more."

I was on a local board and we were changing our building. We needed to re-size our electricity. I suggested that we pay an electrical engineer $1000 to get the right equipment in place. This is routine work that such an engineer could do it blindfolded. "We know how to do that" said two board members and the facility manager, "One of us is journeyman electrician. We know how to size things up."

To make a long story short, we designed our electricity for six times more than what we needed--and were paying lots for this extra capacity. Sorting this out cost us $100,000+ of taxpayer money. And there were no admissions that we f**ked up. I doubt they learned anything useful for next time.
