Hard to say where I'd go if I had to do engineering all over again. I was obviously influenced by one of my early jobs. My psyche has changed that I don't really need to that kind of work to feel good about myself.
If a young engineer decides to get into the petroleum industry, that person should have a great 40-year career. Hopefully when that career ends, the world has far fewer petroleum engineers.
I don't see how shutting down the industry will help. Especially when so many consumers cannot yet cut back on their unnecessary consumption of fossil fuels. Think "cruise ships" or "Los Vegas."
We need a plan to harness the petroleum and other industries. But it seems they have a plan for us.
