Having been part of more than a few internet forums over the years (to promote my alternative system of governance), I have come across a few too many “gun” debates that seem to go nowhere.
This article and its responses are showing a higher level of thinking on this social issue. Kudos to Medium to allowing this kind of discussion.
My take: License all firearm users in a similar manner as we license vehicle drivers. The user must take some tests to show competence with the firearm of their choice. Users must also undergo a criminal records check to get a license.
If a firearm user is not licensed, police can confiscate the firearm and issue a small fine. If the offense is repeated, the punishment gets harder, which could include some time in jail.
This won’t prevent all firearm deaths, but it’s feasible these deaths in the USA could be cut by half in a decade.
