Hello Sam
This articles goes down so many worthwhile rabbit trails. I'll just comment on this point for now and see where it goes.
I think you are right on this point. There have been few protests this time about the Trump victory. Maybe there is no point. Maybe people have resigned themselves that no positive change is possible in the next four years. They are hoping the current elected Democrats will provide the noise to keep the move towards a more fascist state on the slow side--until the next election.
The "nothing burger" campaign was, in my opinion, a reasonable campaign strategy. As you mentioned, the D's could not afford to lose the support of the donor classes. If we don't like this arrangement, well, you know I have a solution.
The people in the back rooms of Canadian politics are coming up with a reasonable marketing strategy to counter the 51st state rhetoric. I am not in the same fear as I was a few days ago. But I can still see American tanks amassing at the border--and some Canadian kid drops a pipe bomb on an American tank with a drone. Still possible. I don't see normal Americans protesting the invasion of Canada.
An armed invasion of Greenland is likely. Strategic economic reasons, indeed. But the base needs to be appeased somehow. Some elements of Project 2025 will be carried through.
A few illegal immigrants will be rounded up. Some protesters will be shot. Whether this is scaled up is another mystery.
My Mastodon feed is full of memes about Elon Musk being the true president. This must be irking Trump to no end. I suspect a lot of Republican infighting, which could result in little of Project 2025 being implemented. But that is not certain.
And we are still entertained by the antics of Donald Trump and his new crew. Most Americans will survive the next four years.
